Elexon Mining are proud to introduce our Operations Manager, Courtney Hamilton. As the Operations Manager at Elexon, Courtney oversees a diverse team spanning multiple departments and managing up to 15 individuals with roles ranging from project leads and technical services to logistics, accounts, and communications. With her hands in a lot of areas, Courtney is the ultimate Swiss Army Knife, greatly contributing to the overall success and efficiency of Elexon Mining.
Overcoming Challanges
Courtney’s responsibilities extend far beyond the office, with various team members located in Brazil, and being an integral part of the operations team that export products worldwide. Juggling logistical challenges, geographical distances, and the dynamics of a large team, Courtney excels at maintaining a positive culture and staying on top of the ball and putting out fires before they become significant. She has an incredible ability to manage multiple conversations at once and being the point of contact for multiple areas of Elexon.
What Keeps Courtney Going
More than coffee, Courtney’s daily motivation to perform at a high level is her commitment to her two children and the desire to leave a lasting legacy. Courtney invests not only in her professional life but in empowering her kids to follow their own passion of a career in STEM. Her superhero inspiration? A female version of Robocop – symbolising resilience, tenacity, and an unwavering commitment to showing up, even when it may be difficult. In fact, if you are lucky enough to meet Courtney in her office, keep your eyes out for the Robocop figurine on her desk!
Personal Experiences in the Engineering Industry
Reflecting on her experiences as a woman in a male-dominated industry, and predominantly having had male managers her entire career, Courtney considers herself fortunate to have received great mentorship and witnessed both the positive and negative aspects of leadership. Courtney acknowledges the conflicts of gender dynamics in the global landscape but emphasised that gender is always second to the more important qualities that anyone can possess to create a positive culture and effective leadership style. Courtney is a firm believer in providing mentorship and support. At the Women in Manufacturing event 2024 in Brisbane, she was impressed by the story of the Winning Leading Apprentice award recipient, Ainsley Downie from Rio Tinto (see image), who shared her inspirational story of a female apprentice being given a great opportunity in North Queensland.
Elexon Mining are privileged to have Courtney as an integral member of our team!
